G30HM #1 : Cato, Galvin and Yago

One day, on a village far far away from where we live now (well, even that village, which was located on a little island, wasn’t on the map at that time), there was this tower, a very high tower that nobody wanted to go to. It was told generation by generation to the people in that village, that the tower was haunted. They were told; inside the tower lived a giant-huge-very ugly monster who loved to have people as his meal. And his favorite was children. So parents in that village, forbade their children to go near that tower, let alone went inside.
But children are children. Whatever they were told, they would exactly do the opposite. There were these five little boys, Galvin, Cato, Kevin, Rafer, and Ramsay who thought the legend was all a lie.
“Our parents just want to scare us!” said Rafer.
“Yeah, they just don’t want us to be happy, to explore and be a man,” Kevin continued in anger. Apparently, that morning, his parents just told him, if he dared to wander around that tower anymore, he wouldn’t get dinner.
“I don’t know, maybe they are right too, friends. Maybe there is a real monster living there. Sometimes we hear screaming from that tower in the night, don’t we?” Cato said.
“You are just afraid and a coward, Cato!” Kevin mocked Cato.
“Well, you may call me anything you want, but there’s no reason not to believe our parents,” Cato explained.
“Hey guys! Stop arguing. What if we prove that there is no monster at all in that tower?!” Galvin whom didn’t talk at all suddenly spoke.
“What? Are you crazy?” Rafer asked.
“I am not! All of you keep talking and talking, now let’s prove it. Who wants to be with me and go to that tower?”
Kevin, Rafer, and Ramsay looked at each other warily.
“I will go with you, Galvin,” suddenly Cato said and smiled at Galvin.
“Kevin? Rafer? Ramsay? Are you going with me or not?”
“Well, we..,”
“Yes? No?”
“Okay, we are going with you,” Rafer agreed.
And that was it. They took decision to prove the existence of that monster. So the next day, the five of them woke up early, and then they went to the tower. Just the night before, they heard the scream again from the tower. They were terrified, but because they have decided to go to the tower, they tried (or maybe pretend) to be braved. After arriving at the tower, they stopped outside the door and were hesitate to go inside.
“Are you sure you want to do this, Galvin?” asked Ramsay.
“Yes, I am sure,” answered Galvin confidently.
“You go ahead then,” said Kevin.
Galvin then opened the door. The sound of the door moving was frightening; the door hinge has not been oiled for a long time. The air was humid, it smelt not good at all. Galvin lighted a torch and lead the way. They went inside and inside. There was a very high staircase that leads to the top of tower. They looked at each other and after an agreement nod, they climbed upstairs.
Suddenly there was a loud sound coming from somewhere inside the tower. They stopped immediately and tried to hear that sound again. But then, there was nothing at all, and they continued walking. After a moment, they heard the same sound again.
“I think I want to go home,” said Ramsay.
“Shut up and walk with us!” Rafer said and held Ramsay’s hand tight.
Finally they arrived at the end of the stairs. In front of them was large room with nothing on it. Though, they saw something big lying down on the corner. Again, they hesitated to look at it.
“Wha…wha..what is that, Galvin?” Kevin asked.
“I’m not sure. We should check it,” Galvin answered.
“I think its better we go home instead. Let’s just leave whatever that is on the corner, and go home,” Ramsay whispered.
“No, we should see what that is,” Galvin insisted.
“Who would go and see what that is?” asked Rafer. He was afraid himself and he wouldn’t want to be the one who’s going to see that mysterious thing.
“Cato, you go with me, okay?” Galvin asked Cato who immediately agreed at Galvin’s request. Galvin and Cato slowly went closer to the mysterious thing. The closer they got, the more they heard a weird heavy sound from it. Just a few more steps, then the mysterious thing moved and it opened its eyes!
Those eyes were yellow, bright yellow. Then it stood, it was very tall. Taller from those boys, it almost reached the ceiling. Ramsay already bent over on the floor and crying; both Kevin and Rafer closed their eyes very tight and peed in their pants. Only Galvin and Cato who stood still and looked into the tall mysterious thing with its yellow eyes.
“HUMMM,” said the tall mysterious thing with its yellow eyes.
“What is that, Cato?” Galvin asked Cato.
“I don’t know, can it speak our language?”
“I don’t know either. How about we ask?”
“Hey you, what are you?”
“HUMMM,” the tall mysterious thing stared at them.
“Can you speak? Do you understand what we talk?”
Suddenly the tall mysterious thing with its yellow eyes bent over and positioned its head just in front of Galvin and Cato.
“I DO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. WHY ARE ALL OF YOU HERE??”
“We just want to prove that there’s no monster at all here, like what our parents say to us.”
“WHY?”
“We just want to do it,” Galvin answered.
“WHAT IF I EAT YOU AND YOU WON’T COME BACK TO YOUR PARENTS ANYMORE?”
“We didn’t think of that. We were sure there was no monster at all here.”
“DON’T I LOOK LIKE A MONSTER?”
“A little, but you seem fairly good.”
“HUMM.”
“What?”
“I HAVE LIVED IN THIS WORLD FOR 976 YEARS, BUT ONLY THE TWO OF YOU WHO THINK I AM NOT FRIGHTENING AT ALL. WELL, EXCEPT THOSE THREE OF COURSE,” the tall mysterious thing pointed out at Kelvin, Ramsay, and Rafer whom were hugging each other now.
“Ignore them,” Galvin said while rolling his eyes.
“Do you like to eat human?”
“I DON’T! I DON’T LIKE THE TASTE OF HUMAN. AND YOU’RE STINKY,”
“And you are not?”
“OF COURSE NOT.”
“What would you like to eat then?”
“LAMB, BACON, ANYTHING, BUT NOT HUMAN. EWW,”
“You are not frightening at all. I bet if we tell people about you, they won’t be terrified and will allow us to play here.”
“DON’T! DON’T TELL THEM I AM NOT FRIGHTENING!”
“Why not?” asked Cato confused.
“BECAUSE THEN THEY WILL USE ME. I LIKE TO BE THIS WAY. PEOPLE AFRAID OF ME AND I AM LEFT ALONE.”
“But aren’t you lonely? You can’t play with anyone, with anything,” Galvin argued.
“NOT ALL THING IN THIS WORLD WANT TO BE ACCOMPANIED, LITTLE MAN. I LIKE THIS WAY.”
Galvin and Cato looked at each other.
“Can we be friends? I mean just us? Can we visit you sometimes?”
“WELL YOU CAN. BUT ONLY THE TWO OF YOU.”
“Yes!!” Galvin shouted happily.
“BUT MAKE SURE THOSE THREE WON’T SAY A WORD ABOUT ME.”
“Don’t worry. Kevin won’t even say a word, or he won’t have dinner for the rest of his life. Ramsay and Rafer won’t say a word too, they will try to forget this, and they are terrified of you,” Cato answered with amused tone.
“OKAY.”
“What should we call you? You must have a name.”
“NAME?”
“Yes! Name. Like my name is Cato, and he is Galvin. What’s your name?”
“I DON’T KNOW. THOUGH MY FAMILY CALL ME YAGO.”
“Yago then. Now, we’re going to leave and bring our friends home, and then we’re coming back here. Is it okay with you?”
“YES OF COURSE. I WILL WAIT HERE CATO and GALVIN.”
